PDO Thread Lift

Skin suspension is a trait that you start to lack with age. Rather than getting a costly surgery with weeks of recovery, you can lift the skin on your face with a nonsurgical thread lift by our board certified dermatologists at Kalia Dermatology & Laser Center in Los Gatos, California. To learn more about thread lifts and what they can do, book an appointment by phone or online at Kalia Dermatology & Laser Center today.

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

A thread lift is a less invasive alternative treatment to face-lift surgery. When you get face-lift surgery, the surgeon makes incisions along your hairline, lifts your skin, and cuts away excess skin and tissue. They may adjust or remove fat deposits in the process. With a thread lift, you can get a similar, albeit more subtle, effect without the large incisions, skin removal, or fat removal.

During your thread lift, your physician makes tiny, inconspicuous incisions in your skin and inserts fine threads through them. The threads are made of an absorbable material that slowly dissolves beneath your skin over time. The threads anchor onto your tissue, and our provider elevates them toward your hairline to produce a contouring effect and reduce sagging.

After your physician knots the threads and sutures, you can see the result right away. Soon, collagen within your skin begins to grow around the threads before they dissolve. This helps the effect stay in place for some time after the threads disappear.

How Does a Thread Lift Compare to Face-Lift Surgery?

While face-lift surgery is the only way to get a drastic lifting effect that lasts for over a decade, the results of a thread lift are notably apparent but subtle enough to look natural. If you’re dealing with minor sagging and wrinkles, the result of a face-lift may seem drastic because you don’t need very much lifting at all. The advantages of a thread lift over face-lift surgery include:

  • Much less recovery time
  • Local anesthesia instead of general
  • Low risk of scarring or bruising
  • Fewer potential complications from the procedure

Generally, you can expect to see the effect of your thread lift for one to three years. No procedure can stop the process of aging entirely, but a thread lift is a great way to rediscover an appreciation for the way you look.

Am I a Good Candidate For a Thread Lift?

To determine if you’re a good candidate for a thread lift, you should sit down for a detailed consultation at Kalia Dermatology & Laser Center. A Kalia physician will assess your current health as well as your medical history and ask questions about your goals for the procedure. They may decide that you’re a candidate for a thread lift if you:

  • Are between your late 30s and early 50s
  • Aren’t a candidate for surgery but want a face-lift
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Are optimistic about the procedure

If you’re not currently a candidate for a thread lift, our provider can direct you to other procedures that may produce a similar effect.
