Fractional Laser treatment delivers light energy in microbeams, which penetrate deep into the layers of the skin. The heated skin tissue then begins a healing process that forms new healthy tissue. The end result is a decrease in age spots, wrinkles, fine lines, and restores a more youthful appearance. Other similar devices use pulsed light to penetrate the skin surface, but because they do not penetrate into the deeper dermis, the effects are less dramatic. The older heavy-duty CO2 lasers actually remove the surface of the skin which eventually gives an excellent result, but means red, raw skin, and a somewhat uncomfortable healing period with considerable down time for several weeks. The newer Fractional Laser treatment has the new advantage of less recovery time, less pain, and virtually no downtime.
