Rosacea is a common skin disease that causes redness and often swelling on the face. It may begin as a tendency to flush easily and then progress to a constant state of redness on the face. As the disease worsens it can include blood vessels that appear on the face and nose. Pimples from rosacea can appear as small bumps on the face which can also contain pus. Swelling of the nose can result in what is called rhinophyma which is the enlarged oil glands causes a bulbous, enlarged red nose. Some rosacea patients can even develop eye disease which if not treated can worsen and cause eye complications.
Dermatologists can use a wide variety of treatments to control the symptoms and disease progression of rosacea, but patients should understand that there is no cure for this disease. At Kalia Dermatology we have an extensive range of treatments to control rosacea ranging from traditional oral and topical medications to laser and light based treatments to eliminate redness and blood vessels.
People with rosacea tend to have very sensitive skin and you need to be very selective when putting any products on your face and skin. Avoid anything that can irritate your sensitive skin or you could trigger your rosacea and make it worse. Soaps and moisturizers should be free of alcohol or other irritating agents. And a sunscreen should almost always be applied when going outdoors. At Kalia Dermatology, we have a wide range of products, sunscreens and makeups that can work with sensitive rosacea skin.
